DRAFT.

and the sentry was therefore obliged

to fire, wounding the prisoner in the

thigh. A crowd of about four hundred

of the internees then collected and

began stoning the sentries. The

troops had to advance with fixed

at

bayonets the High Port. A minor

incident occurred in which one of the

prisoners was wounded in the back with

a bayonet point, but order was quickly

restored.

FURTHER ACTION.

The second of these cases

occurred on January the 9th. The

sentry on duty noticed one of the

prisoners climbing the high outside

fence of the camp. The guard shouted

to the man, but he took no notice;

he managed to get over the fence and

began to run. The camp Commandant

then ordered a sentry to fire. The

escaping man was hit in the shoulder

and taken to hospital.
